An exception for a friend

I'll make an exception to my policy of only discussing gaming here to post this from doctor_toc

Maybe if you ask me gaming-related questions, it'll fit better. :) However, the rules say you can ask anything, so ask away. I reserve the right to answer vaguely.

I want everyone who reads this to ask me three questions...no more, no less.

Ask me anything you want.

Then I want you to go to your journal, copy and paste this...allowing your friends (including myself) to ask you anything.

Okay - 3 Gaming Questions

1: Ever tried any of the MMORPGs like EverCrack or Star Wars Galaxies?

2: What RPG do you want to play that you've never gotten to play? (This includes ones you've ran but never played.)

3: What RPG do you want to run but have never had a chance to?

1: Ever tried any of the MMORPGs like EverCrack or Star Wars Galaxies?

Nope. I'm afraid to -- I can't really afford the monthly fees, and am afraid that I would disappear into the black hole that is MMORPG's. I am also wary of the whole PvP environment; it holds no appeal for me.

2: What RPG do you want to play that you've never gotten to play? (This includes ones you've ran but never played.)

Feng Shui. I'm utterly enchanted by the whole Hong Kong Martial arts setting and style, but have never managed to play a game. Even when I can find someone who'll run it, I can't find enough players to get up a game. I think Robin Laws is a Gaming God, I do, really.

3: What RPG do you want to run but have never had a chance to?
Firefly. Okay, I know it's not an RPG and may never be, but I am fascinated by the depth of the background and storytelling, and would love to run a game in that universe. I'm aware of Doyce Testerman's excellent Firefly Wiki , but am not familiar enough with Unknown Armies to try that approach. There are also a lot of background questions that I'd love answers for before I try to further develop the world. But it's a rich world, and I'd love to run a game there.

Existing systems? I dunno... I'd have to go look at the Orphan Games bookcases.

Thanks for indulging me, Rick!

1. Who made your default icon... the cartoony looking one? I've seen a lot of journals with similar so assume it's some kind of programming thing.

2. Going to GenCon this year? I can't wait for the LD interactive... *drool*

3. Oh! Here's an LJ question... I'm new to this, so forgive me, please. How do you link another person's journal? Like when I post this I want to put: "from (icon/link jaewalker).

From my friend doctor_toc: http://www.dookyweb.com/index.php?seccion=avatars Build your avatar, then do a print-screen of the final page. Open a graphics editor (like Paint, or Paintshop Pro, or whatever), paste in your screen print and cut out the portion you want to use, saving it into a file. The picture must be a .GIF, .JPG, or .PNG. The actual picture can be no larger than 100x100 pixels, and the file size cannot be greater than 40kb. The image file must be on your local computer, or be accessible via a URL. The LiveJournal FAQ is actually pretty useful -- check it out! I have to look things up all of the time.

I am going to Gencon Indy, but I must sadly inform you that (unless there's a miraculous change) there won't be a Living Death interactive. RPGA didn't reserve space for it. I, for one, am sad but unsurprised. I won't be judging at Gencon either; I plan to play, for the first time since my first Genocon in 1987.

3. Oh! Here's an LJ question... I'm new to this, so forgive me, please. How do you link another person's journal? Like when I post this I want to put: "from (icon/link jaewalker).

The link to a user needs to look something like this: lj user="jaewalker" (surrounded by html angle brackets, of course). Additional helpful info on LJ's special tags can be found at: http://www.livejournal.com/support/faqbrowse.bml?faqid=75

Thanks for asking me questions! It's neat to get an idea who's reading my ramblings.

No Interactive?!?
*cries*

Come on! We can do it... we can all just go to the sports bar across the street or something... heck... do it in the hall. Take over a room! Man... that is sad! It was one of the highlights of the Con for me last year. Plus... one of my friends got the FULL PAGE CERT if ya know what I mean?!? "Big Fat Greek Wedding" Etc., etc.

Ah well...

Thanks for your answers. I had one of those "Oh yeah... just read the FAQ" moments on the last one. *grin*

I'll copy the instructions in my journal if you pop over.

PS: I started reading your journal after searching for Living Death and RPGA. :-)

Re: No Interactive?!?
Alas, we'd have to get Claire to buy into that, and I don't think she'd be willing, seeing as RPGA didn't make time in the schedule.

My paranoid schitzophrenic watchmaker (yeah, I said watchmaker - you gotta problem wit dat, pal?) has a full page certificate for a pocket watch that gives him a personal haste spell every time he uses it. Of course, it takes days off his life every time he does...

It's one of the things I love about Living Death -- you don't want any magic items!

Thanks for letting me know where you found me - I was trying to figure out where I knew you from!

Depending on where you live (and thus how far the drive is), let me commend Weekend in Gothic Earth in Springfield, OH, run by our Dark Mistress and her madly cackling consort, Keith. An entire weekend of nothing but Living Death (and sometimes even an interactive!).
