Musical Inspiration

GOD
Listening to music while I work reminds me that I've always taken a lot of inspiration from songs. From movies as well, but in this case I was listening to "Land of Confusion" by Genesis, and it struck me that it's a perfect anthem for a modern superhero game. Or a game where the players are fighting the established order, trying to make right what's gone wrong.

In particular:
I won't be coming home tonight
My generation will put it right
We're not just making promises
That we know, we'll never keep.
and
Now this is the world we live in
And these are the hands we're given
Use them and let's start trying
To make it a place worth fighting for.

This is the world we live in
And these are the names we're given
Stand up and let's start showing
Just where our lives are going to.
I've been itching to run a Heroes-inspired game, but haven't found the time yet. This would make a good basis, perhaps along with Mike and the Mechanics' "Silent Running".

I must've dreamed a thousand dreams
Been haunted by a million screams
But I can hear the marching feet
They're moving into the street.

Now did you read the news today
They say the danger's gone away
But I can see the fires still alight
There burning into the night.

There's too many men
Too many people
Making too many problems
And not much love to go round
Can't you see
This is a land of confusion.

This is the world we live in
And these are the hands we're given
Use them and let's start trying
To make it a place worth living in.

Ooh Superman where are you now
When everything's gone wrong somehow
The men of steel, the men of power
Are losing control by the hour.

This is the time
This is the place
So we look for the future
But there's not much love to go round
Tell me why, this is a land of confusion.

This is the world we live in
And these are the hands we're given
Use them and let's start trying
To make it a place worth living in.

I remember long ago -
Ooh when the sun was shining
Yes and the stars were bright
All through the night
And the sound of your laughter
As I held you tight
So long ago -

I won't be coming home tonight
My generation will put it right
We're not just making promises
That we know, we'll never keep.

Too many men
There's too many people
Making too many problems
And not much love to go 'round
Can't you see
This is a land of confusion.

Now this is the world we live in
And these are the hands we're given
Use them and let's start trying
To make it a place worth fighting for.

This is the world we live in
And these are the names we're given
Stand up and let's start showing
Just where our lives are going to.

Theme Songs
This reminds me of a PTA game I'd like to run where the group starts with the theme song, nothing else and build the show around that. We'd all probably come to the table with two songs and figure out which to use.

Re: Theme Songs
Ohhh... *head*desk* PTA, of course! I could conceivably run with my idea without a huge prep investment. Thank you!

The video for LoC had a Ronald Reagan puppet (everyone in the video was a puppet) wearing a Superman suit running around.

Yeah, I was remembering that video. I think Jae's campaign *definitely* needs Reagan in a Superman suit. ;-)

Disturbed does a pretty good cover of this on their 2005 Ten Thousand Fists album.

I take inspiration for songs off that album for my Midnight campaign, dark fantasy in which the bad guys have already won. Middle Earth without Frodo, for example. There's a lot of antiestablishment and antiwar sentiment in the tracks on that album, so listening to it on the way home from work charges me up for running Midnight.
