Way Cool Tools

First, let me point you to an entry from ENWorld, brought to my attention by my friend rickj . These guys have set up a video projector over their game table for maps for their miniatures. It's very cool and I wish I could have one.  Word.

The other very, very nifty thing I stumbled across this week is the Hypertext D20 SRD. It's wonderfully indexed and super easy to use (unlike the official online SRD). I tend to run/play off my laptop, so a well-indexed SRD is a lifesaver. I forked over the very reasonable $15 just so I can have the whole thing off-line on my laptop.

That's a pretty cool setup, if you go in for that sort of thing.

As for me, I don't believe that miniatures have any place whatsoever at an RPG table. I'd been gaming heavily for four years before I ever saw a miniature on a gaming table and I still don't like them.

I dislike them for the same reason I dislike big, intricate puzzles in RPG sessions: in my experience, as soon as they appear, all in-character role-playing seems to stop completely.
